Bruins get big Game 1 win. Can they carry the momentum over to tomorrow?

Huge win for the Boston Bruins today after an awful performance in the round robin tournament. Tuuka Rask definitely didn’t have a good day today, but the fact that our offense was good enough to overcome that is a good sign for sure.

There’s still a lot this team needs to get right before they return as the team that had the most points in the league before it shut down. The main issue was the absolute atrocity that was the power play unit. It was starting to feel like they should just decline it and play 5 on 5 because once they lost a guy, the Bruins were stifled. It was so bad they even gave the Carolina Hurricanes a free short handed goal. This needs to improve because in the event they advance, they’ll have to take advantage of those opportunities when they come around.

You can still see the rust on the players too. Jake DeBrusk missed a wide open net somehow, and Charlie Coyle had another shot to end the game in overtime but swung and missed. The longer the Bruins stick around in the playoffs, the more dangerous they will be. Those are opportunities that would have gone in had they been truly in the swing of things.

With the game having been postponed till today, it’s a quick turnaround for tomorrow, especially considering the game went into double OT. If the Bruins can win tomorrow, they should be able to pull out the series after handing Carolina two quick losses. Hopefully the team sharpens up some of the weaker elements, but ultimately this was a good start to a hopefully long postseason run.
